The set consists of 12 compotes and 12 under plates! They are not signed but they LOOK like the work of Hawkes and Company! Hawkes Rich Cut Glass Works was established in 1880 in Corning, NY. In 1890, it was incorporated as T. Hawkes crystal epitomized the finest in cut glass production. During its 82 years in business T. Hawkes and Company captured world wide attention for its products, designing crystal services for members of royalty and at least two U. Hawkes large array of stem wear , so highly prized today, often came with magnificent serving pieces, such as compotes and under plates……….. Only about half of their pieces are marked. Rock crystal is a style of copper wheel engraving that, combined with polishing gives glass the appearance of rock crystal. The crystal is gorgeous and the engraving is exquisite. As you can see from the pictures the engraving and cutting was done by a master craftsman! The flowers, leaves, delicate ribbons and bows catch the light from every angle! It is very rare to see a full set of 12 with under plates come on the market for sale! We even have most of the original Tiffany plate protectors, imprinted with Tiffany and Company, New York, Paris, London! The compotes measure 3 5/8″ high, the top rim is 5 3/8″ round and the bottom is 2 3/4. The under plate is 8 round. All compotes and under plates are in perfect condition except for one compote which has one small chip which you can see in pictures 10 & 11. Considering the age and fragility of these beautiful pieces I think that is remarkable. The overall condition of all the pieces is excellent only showing very minor table wear on a few pieces. This beautiful set of Hawkes crystal was used in our Bed and Breakfast in Florida which was named one the Top Ten in the United States. Thank you for your interest in our remarkable set of crystal!
