Vintage Set 5 MORGANTOWN Optic Wine/Cordial Glasses CUT FLORAL W CUT STEM & FOOT. 5 5/8″ tall, 2.25″ across top, 2 foot. Holds 3 ounces with headroom at top- a versatile size for a small wine glass or a cordial/sherry etc glass. Hand blown hand cut with lovely vertical optic panels and a tapered indent at bottom of bowl, this very unusual shape was known as a’ripple bowl’ by Morgantown in the early 1930s. Classic Art Deco style at its very best. Features an incredibly elegant bevel cut [clear] pattern of crossed branches with leaves and dots representing flowers in the center. Forms stunning shapes around the bowl. The bowl also features 8 horizontal cuts in close proximity that form a ribbon band. Band contains cut dots within it and there are smaller dots which frame the band above and below it. Stem is teardrop shaped and features scoop cuts around its center point, extremely unusual. Foot of glasses are cut with 3 laurel leaf branches for even more added interest. These are lovely from the outside of the glass and also while drinking from the glass and looking into it. See all pics and use zoom. This pattern is circa 1931. A gorgeous, heirloom set. Rare to find, especially in a large set. Excellent condition- pristine and without chips nicks cracks or scratches. No signs of use or cloudiness. An unusual and very distinctive shape. Beautifully weighted and balanced, these glasses are a pleasure to hold. This is a great set for a vintage glass collector and would look very special in use or on display where the light can shine through them.
