SET of 4 CUT CRYSTAL 5½ ART DECO CHAMPAGNE COUPES by EISENLOEFFEL. It is my pleasure to offer you this set of 4 handcut crystal champagne glasses designed by Jan Eisenloeffel and produced by Kristalunie in Maastricht The Netherlands. Eisenloeffel was the first artist in the Netherlands who -looking for ways to improve the design of metal objects for domestic use- came to very original and surprising solutions. In his work we find no stylized naturalistic motifs, but simple clean shapes with unbold geometric ornaments. Many museums at home and abroad show examples of his early work of before 1908, which is considered the most interesting part of his oeuvre. After studying at the “State Normal School” in Amsterdam he became interested in the modern movement in decorative arts. He was influenced by architects like Berlage and de Bazel, who advocated a clearly visible and honest use of construction materials. His simple clean geometric shapes with discreet ornaments joined seamlessly with developments such as the architecture of Berlage. From his studio came handmade silver tableware, but also machine-made copper items. The glass service that Eisenloeffel designed for Kristalunie in Maastricht in 1928 was so popular that it remained in production until long after the second world war. The heavy, cut glass drinks service marketed under Eisenloeffels own name, was originally composed of 24 pieces. This can be seen in the bowl of this glass, each of which is decorated with twelf cut facets and supported on a hexagonal stem. The transition from stem to bowl is marked by a collar of sparkling crystal, consisting of three horizontal cirkels of diamond-shaped facets. In this design Eissenloeffel struck the perfect balance between the visual idioms of glass services of the past and present. This glass service is part of the collection of the Netherlands National Glass Museum in Leerdam. This is the champagne glass of this service. The price is for the set of 4 glasses.
